MN IT security boss leaving one state job for another
The state’s chief information security officer is leaving that key post to take another job in Minnesota government.
Chris Buse is moving after 10 years from Minnesota IT Services, an executive branch agency, to the Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA). He will be the deputy legislative auditor for the financial audit division.
Buse previously spent 19 years with the OLA as manager of information technology audits. Legislative Auditor Jim Nobles said Buse is the perfect person for the job.
“He started his career here. He was trained here. He then went into the executive branch because they needed him, and we need him back,” Nobles said.” There are many, many issues that we are addressing, not only in terms of data security but other issues in state government.”

A hearing on Buse’s appointment to the OLA post is schedule Thursday before the Legislative Audit Commission.
Buse’s move comes at a time of great concern in state government over cybersecurity threats. He recently appeared before a Minnesota Senate committee to update lawmakers about the state’s cyber-defense efforts.
Buse said he expects a seamless transition when he leaves at the end of the month.
“Our goal has always been to have the number one cybersecurity program in the nation, and I think we’re well on track,” Buse said. “There are some great candidates internally, so I believe the state of Minnesota will not skip a beat with me leaving.”
