Daily Digest: It’s primary day

Good morning. Welcome to Tuesday, which is primary election day in Minnesota. Here's the overview. And here's how to find your polling place. Let's take a look at the Digest.

1. Minneapolis police have a new four-point set of policies designed to improve police-community relations. They center around de-escalation of confrontations and sanctity of life. They also call for police to intervene with fellow officers if they feel use of force is unjustified and  to report improper behavior by fellow officers. (MPR News)

2. State Sen. Terri Bonoff, DFL-Minnetonka,  had more out-of-town help in her 3rd District congressional campaign Monday and more criticism for her opponent Republican Congressman Erik Paulsen. She's trying to tie him to Donald Trump, but Paulsen's campaign manager says the congressman has not endorsed any presidential candidate. Paulsen himself isn't talking about Trump. (Star Tribune)

3. Trump laid out his economic plan in a speech in Detroit Monday. He called for big tax cuts, scrapping trade deals and reducing environmental regulations. Trump's tax plan is actually a different one than he proposed during the  primaries, and the new plan is more in line with what Congressional Republicans have proposed. He also wants to abolish the estate tax and allow parents to fully deduct child care expenses on their taxes, both of which would have the most benefits for the wealthiest Americans. (New York Times)

4.  A lot of news organizations checked some of the facts in Trump's speech. NPR has a transcript with checking built in. (NPR)

5. Hillary Clinton gives her own speech on the economy later in the week, but she's already said what she thinks of Trump's plan. As you might expect, she's not a fan. Clinton said Trump's new panel of economic advisers likely gave him the speech to read, and that it's just a repackaging of trickle-down economics. "His tax plans will give super big tax breaks to large corporations and the really wealthy, just like him and the guys who wrote the speech,” she said. (Politico)
