Daily Digest: State employee contracts at issue
Good morning. We've made it to Wednesday already. Here's a look at the Digest.
1. A Republican state legislator wants to attach conditions to approval of labor contracts for tens of thousands of state employees. The contracts were negotiated by public employee unions and Gov. Mark Dayton's administration. If the Legislature doesn't sign off, the state would revert to the old contracts. (MPR News)
2. The state DNR is looking for $72.5 million in bonding money to repair state park buildings and another $5 million for day-to-day operations. (Pioneer Press)
3. At a forum in Wisconsin last night Donald Trump said he will no longer agree to support the Republican presidential nominee if he doesn't win. He said he's been treated unfairly. The other two candidates still in the race also stepped back from a pledge to support the eventual nominee. Meanwhile Trump says he stands behind his campaign manager, who has been charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly grabbing a female reporter's arm. He blamed the reporter for the incident. 4. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker endorsed Ted Cruz over Trump in the Badger State's presidential primary, which is coming up on Tuesday. Trump has given money to Walker in the past, but was highly critical of his record as governor during Walker's brief campaign for the nomination. (Washington Post)
5. A 4-4 Supreme Court tie is a loss for some California teachers who wanted to get out of paying the equivalent of dues to a union they didn't want to be in. It's also a big win for organized labor in a case they surely would have lost had Antonin Scalia been alive. (New York Times)
