Daily Digest: Bird flu, terrorism and politicians

Good morning, and welcome to Tuesday. The Legislature returns from a long Easter weekend today, and we're a week out from the Wisconsin presidential primary.

Here's the Digest.

1. Avian flu did a lot of damage to turkey flocks in Minnesota last year. Officials still don't know exactly how the virus spread. There's a lake in China that has been linked to the spread of avian flu in Asia, and some worry it could also be an ideal staging area for the flu to jump from birds to humans.  (MPR News)

2. Federal prosecutors are alleging that a St. Paul imam serving on the defense team in one of the Minnesota ISIS terror cases appears to have preaching about jihad. (MPR News)

3. State Rep. Tony Cornish, R-Vernon Center, is one of the more colorful members of the Minnesota House. He's often unpredictable, and he sometimes uses his power as a committee chair not to consider legislation. (MinnPost)

4. There's a deal in the California Legislature to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour. But the full increase doesn't kick in until 2022. The move seems to prevent a plan to put the issue on the ballot, but some business groups say they're still not happy. (LA Times)

5. Coming off wins in several states, officials with Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign said the Vermont Senator would have won even more, but chose not to compete. But a look at the record shows that's not quite accurate. (Politico)
