Myhra is third GOP congressional hopeful in 2nd District
Former state Rep. Pam Myhra announced today that she’s a Republican candidate for Congress in Minnesota’s 2
nd
District.
Myra served two terms in the Minnesota House, representing Burnsville and Savage, and was Marty Seifert’s running mate in the 2014 governor’s race.

During a campaign event in Savage, Myhra said she was running for Congress to make sure her children and grandchildren can live the American dream and enjoy the same opportunities she had.
“I am running because I am concerned as you are about out-of-control federal government spending, which has led to an enormous $18 trillion national debt that threatens the health of our nation’s economy,” Myhra said. “We need a healthy economy to make a living and support our families. It is imperative to get federal spending under control.”
Incumbent Republican Congressman John Kline announced last month that he won’t seek re-election in 2016.
Myhra is the third GOP candidate to enter the race, joining David Gerson and John Howe. She said she will seek the party endorsement and drop out if she doesn’t get it.
“Absolutely I will abide by the endorsement,” she said. “If there is no endorsement, I of course will go on to the primary like everyone else.”
The two announced DFL candidates in the 2
nd
District are Angie Craig and Mary Lawrence.
