DFLers to hold fundraiser for Clinton super PAC

A group of DFL heavyweights including Gov. Mark Dayton, Sen. Amy Klobuchar,  U.S. Reps. Rick Nolan and Betty McCollum and others are hosting a fundraiser for a super PAC aimed at helping Hillary Clinton’s potential run for president.

The fundraiser, held at the office of DFL donor Vance Opperman on June 18, will raise money for the Ready for Hillary PAC. The invitation obtained by MPR News also said it will launch the Minnesotans Ready for Hillary organization.

Ready for Hillary is a super PAC independent of Hillary Clinton but it includes some of her former political advisers. It  has been described as a “virtual campaign in waiting” that is going to lay the groundwork for Clinton to make a White House run in 2016.

Clinton has not said whether she’s going to run for president.

The list of hosts also shows that Clinton has strong support among well-known DFL politicians if she chooses to run for president. DFL Party Chair Ken Martin, House Speaker Paul Thissen,  House Majority Leader Erin Murphy and St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman are also listed as hosts of the event.

Dayton and Coleman backed Clinton’s presidential run in 2008. Klobuchar backed President Obama’s campaign.
