Seifert raised $150k for campaign in five weeks
Former Republican state Rep. Marty Seifert announced today that his campaign for governor raised more than $150,000 in the final five weeks of 2013.
Seifert, who announced his candidacy in late November, ended the year with $138,400 in the bank. He entered the race much later than the the five other GOP gubernatorial candidates who are trying to unseat incumbent DFL Gov. Mark Dayton this fall.
In a news release, Seifert emphasized that his campaign had nearly 800 individual donors and no contributions from lobbyists.
“Our donors come from all backgrounds and all corners of Minnesota,” Seifert said. “We are truly a grassroots campaign, utilizing every dollar raised wisely without bloated overhead, self-appointed political consultants or wasteful tactics.”
Last week, state Rep. Kurt Zellers, R-Maple Grove, announced that his gubernatorial campaign raised more than $403,000 over six months. Earlier GOP fundraising reports showed businessman Scott Honour raised $500,000, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson raised $240,000 and state Sen. Dave Thompson, R-Lakeville, raised $120,000. Hibbing teacher Rob Farnsworth has not yet announced his total.
