GOP and DFL state conventions scheduled for same weekend

The Republican Party of Minnesota announced today that its 2014 state convention will be held at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester on May 30 and 31.

Convention delegates will endorse candidates for governor, U.S. senator and state constitutional officers.

“We’re excited to bring Republican delegates together for the important work of endorsing our candidates in the host city of Rochester,” Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Keith Downey said in a news release.

There's only one problem. Minnesota Democrats have already announced that they will be gathering in Duluth on the same weekend. The DFL state convention is scheduled May 30 through June 1 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

The parties usually schedule their conventions on alternate weekends and don't step on each other's show.
