Democrat Al Franken’s campaign for U.S. Senate reports raising $1.97 million between March 31 and June 30. The Senate candidate also reports having more than $3 million in the bank. Franken reports raising his $1.97 million from 29,925 donors. The campaign also says 97 percent of the contributions were $100 or less.

Franken is gearing up for a reelection battle. There are at least two Republicans who have filed paperwork to challenge him. Businessman Mike McFadden and state Rep. Jim Abeler,R-Anoka, have both announced that they’re running in the race. McFadden reported raising $700,000 in the first month of his campaign. Abeler, who announced in June that he was running, has not yet reported his fundraising.

State Sen. Julianne Ortman, R-Chanhassen, is also mulling a bid. Ortman's campaign website has been redesigned with a "Team Julianne" theme and her Twitter page features a page of the Jefferson Memorial. Ortman has been sending out e-mail alerts that focus on federal issues but has not officially announced whether she will run or not.
