Brodkorb asking for $600,000 in complaint against MN Senate
Former Senate communications staffer Michael Brodkorb is asking for $600,000 in damages from the state Senate.
The number is included in court documents filed today that outline the case's course of events, including the number of depositions each side plans to take.
If the case goes to trial, it may not happen until June of 2014 and could take as long as two weeks, according to the document.
The Senate is hoping to shield information collected in the case from the public, according to the document. Brodkorb's lawyer, Phil Villaume, says his client doesn't have an opinion on the matter and is going to leave it up to the court to decide.
Brodkorb lost his job as a top aide to former Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch in December 2011, after it was revealed that he and Koch were having an affair. Koch stepped down and Brodkorb lost his job the day after she made the announcement.
Brodkorb said he was discriminated against. He claims that other staffers had affairs with lawmakers, but were not fired.
Sen. David Senjem, R-Rochester, and former Secretary of the Senate Cal Ludeman will be deposed in early June. Former Republican Sens. Chris Gerlach, Geoff Michel and Claire Robling will also be deposed.
