DFL makes it official: Ken Martin is Party Chair
Democrats made it official today. They elected veteran political operative Ken Martin as DFL Party Chair. He will replace Brian Melendez, who decided against seeking another term.
The move isn't a surprise. Martin was the only candidate running and had the backing of Gov. Dayton and other DFL politicians.
Martin will have the difficult task of rebuilding a party that won the big prize in 2010 (Race for governor) but had some stinging losses (lost control of the Legislature and DFL Rep. Jim Oberstar's seat). Every seat in the Legislature is up in 2012 because of redistricting. The lines will also be redrawn for the members of Congress. That could make things interesting.

"I thank Brian Melendez and Donna Cassutt for their years of service and the strong legacy they leave behind at the Party. I look forward to getting to work supporting our DFL elected officials and candidates, promoting the values of our party and fighting against the attacks on our quality of life by conservative majorities in the legislature in Minnesota and Washington, DC."

"His experience and skills will serve him well as he steps into the role of State Chair, and I wish him well as he takes on that responsibility."
