Thaw arrives; 40s again Thanksgiving week
Average never felt so good. Temperatures hit the 40s and 50s Wednesday across southern and western Minnesota. We hit 43 degrees in the Twin Cities Wednesday. Our average high for November 14 is 42 degrees. Canby, Minnesota hit 55-degrees Wednesday afternoon. A ribbon of significantly milder air with highs in the 60s pushed as far north as South Dakota.
Minnesota rides the edge of a milder air mass again Thursday. Highs reach the 40s to near 50 degrees again in southern Minnesota. A cool front keeps temperatures in the 30s up north.
Cooler weekend
The next cool front blows south Thursday night. We chill off this weekend, but temperatures moderate again next week. Pre-Thanksgiving travel still looks good across the Upper Midwest.

Instant leaf drop
I noticed some trees in Minnesota seemed to drop their fall leaf canopy in just a matter of hours this year. The same appears to be true in Pennsylvania. I can relate. This is precisely how I feel in November.
Amazing satellite detail
We continue to get great images from NOAA's latest generation of weather satellites. It's amazing how far weather technology has progressed in the last 20 years. This is one reason the 5-day forecast today is as accurate as the 3-day forecast was 20 years ago.
NOAA's latest satellite, GOES-W, moved into position over the eastern Pacific.
