Progressive wave pattern
The jet stream is gyrating through what meteorologists refer to as a progressive wave pattern. The series of trofs and ridges passing overhead is what's producing our wild temperature swings. Another mild bubble of air arrives next week.
NOAA's Climate Predictions center keeps the western U.S. warmer than average overall next week.
