Labor Day afternoon thunderstorm update
Numerous thunderstorms have popped in response to a wave in the atmosphere and the heating of the day. At approximately 3:30 p.m., thunderstorms are scattered across northern and central Minnesota. Storms are moving toward the southeast into the Twin Cities metro area.
Cold air aloft has been freezing some of these raindrops into hail. As we go through the remainder of Monday afternoon, some thunderstorms will produce small hail and gusty winds. The threat of significant severe weather is low.
Thunderstorm activity will wane this evening.

Temperatures will begin to rebound on Thursday.
Hurricane Irma update
Irma is now a Category 4 hurricane, with Category 5 being the strongest.
Irma is likely to remain a major hurricane as it approaches the southeastern U.S. next weekend.
