A breezy and unseasonably cool Sunday

Crisp Canadian air continues to flow southeastward across Minnesota this Sunday morning. The result will be afternoon temperatures about 15 degrees cooler than normal for late June. Expect highs today from the upper 50s to the upper 60s. The Twin Cities should warm to only about 68.

And there will be some rain, mainly across the northeastern part of our state. Rain has been falling early this morning from around Lake Mille Lacs to Grand Rapids, International Falls and Ely and is tracking to the southeast toward Hinckley, Duluth and the North Shore.

A gradual warmup beginning Monday

Expect lots of sunshine on Monday and Tuesday. High temperatures on Monday should range from the mid 60 to the low 70s. And then Tuesday will be a few degrees warmer.

Strong storms?

We will have a chance of strong or even severe thunderstorms across the state beginning Tuesday night and on Wednesday. The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting the possibility of severe weather spreading eastward from the Dakotas during that time.

More unsettled weather later in the week

Forecast models are indicating the good chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms each day from Thursday through Sunday. Different parts of the state might get hit each day, so most rainfall totals are not likely to be substantial. However, areas from Kansas City to Chicago and the lower Great Lakes could see lots of rain over the next week.
