Mild start to April; March recap

We're starting April in style, with above normal temperatures and no snowflakes on the radar!

Our Saturday highs are expected to poke into the lower 60s over much of southern and central Minnesota, with mostly 50s north. A few spots in northeastern Minnesota that have a bit of snow cover might top out in the 40s.

Highs in the 50s will be common on Sunday:

The Twin Cities metro area will  see a high near 60 on Monday, then highs in the 50s Tuesday through Friday.

Sunday shower chance

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale forecast model shows some areas of showers over Minnesota Sunday and Sunday night:

Scattered showers are also possible on Monday.

Warm streak continues

The average temperature for the month of March was 1.2 degrees above normal at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

March was the 19th consecutive warmer than normal month in the Twin Cities.

The preliminary March climate report for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, from the National Weather Service, has the daily temperature details:

The column labeled “DEP” is highlighted, since it shows each day’s departure from normal.

Days that have positive numbers in the “DEP” are warmer than normal, taking the average of the high and low temperature of each day.

We tallied 19 warmer than normal days in the Twin Cities in March, and 12 days that were colder than normal.

The official March snowfall total was 4.7 inches at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, well below our average March total of 10.2 inches.

Happy anniversary
