Whiplash: Tornadoes to blowing snow in 12 hours

Welcome to Minnesota's latest case of weather whiplash.

We've gone from tornadoes to snow in less than 12 hours. We'll learn officially today what I'm 99.5% sure of now, that last night's extreme weather event produced the earliest tornadoes on record in Minnesota.

Storm survey teams from the Twin Cities NWS are in the field today.

Massive tornado outbreak

Minnesota rode the northern edge of what turned out to be a massive multi-state tornado outbreak last night. NOAA's GOES 16 is sending back some amazingly detailed images.

NOAA's Storm Prediction Center and the Twin Cities NWS office did an outstanding job of warning for this unusual out of season severe weather event.  33 preliminary tornado reports, at least 15 injured.

It's amazing nobody was killed, or injured given the damage photos streaming into the Huttner Weather Lab this morning.

Weather bungee jump

Temperatures crashed more than 40 degrees in just 12 hours overnight across southern Minnesota. Now that's a cold front.

Gales of March

Wind advisories are flying today across Minnesota. Gusts will exceed 50 mph in some locations, and may approach 60 mph in southwest Minnesota. An isolated pop-up T-Storm in southern Minnesota today? Why not?

Winter strikes back

Old Man Winter seems a little miffed at the lack of respect the past few weeks. He's taking some revenge as meteorological spring (Mar-May) arrives. Shorts, coats, hats repeat. This week feels like the February we never had. Temperatures moderate by late next week.

Sunday snow?

Both the European Model and NOAA's GFS hint at the potential for accumulating snow Sunday. Not holding my breath, but keeping one eye open.
