A very nice autumn weekend

The timing of weather systems is good this weekend.

A high pressure system will bring plenty of sunshine to Minnesota as we start the weekend, and winds will be light.

Our Saturday highs will be above normal, ranging from the middle 60s over southwestern Minnesota to the lower 50s near the Canadian border:

Lower 60s are expected in the Twin Cities, which is well above our average high of 55 degrees.

A weak cold front slides into Minnesota on Sunday:

Highs on Sunday will still be a bit above normal in central and southern Minnesota:

Some spots in the south, including the Twin Cities metro area, could even touch 60 degrees.

Northern Minnesota could see some scattered showers Sunday and Sunday night.

Soaking rains

A low pressure system will pass just to our south from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday.

Periods of rain are likely Tuesday and Wednesday, and some spots could see over 2 inches.

Here is the National Weather Service precipitation forecast from Tuesday into early Thursday of this coming week:

The areas in blue over southern and central Minnesota indicate one half of an inch to one and a half inches of rain. Purple shaded areas over south-central and southeastern Minnesota are between one and a half inches and two and a half inches of rainfall.

Earlier sunsets

I'm still getting used to the earlier sunsets of autumn.

My wife Deb and I have now moved our porch time to before the dinner hour. In June and July, everyone had plenty of daylight after dinner, with sunsets close to 9 p.m.

Our sunset today is at 6:15 p.m. CDT in the Twin Cities.

We go back to Central Standard Time in two weeks, and sunset on Sunday November 6 will be 4:54 p.m. CST!
