A cold front is on its way

This morning

Early-morning temperatures were mild for this October date in much of Minnesota. And the showers that crossed southern Minnesota overnight have exited the southeastern corner of the state into Wisconsin.

Cold front

A serious cold front will separate northwestern Minnesota from the rest of the state today. High temperatures this afternoon will range from the chilly mid 40s around Hallock and Warroad in northwestern Minnesota to the balmy low 70s in the southeast including Rochester and Winona. The Twin Cities should warm to about 68.

There will be some scattered showers spreading across about the northern half of the state today. For the metro area, showers are likely later tonight into tomorrow morning.

Wednesday

Tomorrow we all will be on the chilly backside of that cold front. Highs on Wednesday are likely to be just in the 40s statewide. The Twin Cities should stop at about 48, more than 10 degrees cooler than normal.

Serious frost

Clearing skies and chilly Canadian air will set us up for widespread frost Wednesday night. Break the news to your marigolds gently.

High pressure

High pressure will build in and bring sunny skies and a gradual warming trend Thursday and Friday.

Thursday will remain cool with highs from the upper 40s to mid 50s. Friday will be a bit warmer and might be the best day of the remainder of the week.

Saturday

The next cold front will track our way with numerous showers and possibly some thunderstorms on Saturday.

Out in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Nicole is forecast to reach hurricane strength before passing very close to the lovely island of Bermuda early Thursday.
