A summery Sunday; heavy rains possible Wednesday

Our average high temperature for today is 71 degrees in the Twin Cities. We'll shoot right by that, and could top out in the lower 80s!

It's great to have a summery Sunday in September!

Southerly winds ahead of a low pressure system will bring warm temps to most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin today:

Some spots along the north shore of Lake Superior will be a bit cooler, with highs around 70.

Scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm are possible this evening and tonight.

The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a marginal risk of severe weather later today and tonight over much of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area:

A marginal risk means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible. In the Twin Cities, our thunderstorm chance appears to be mainly after 8 p.m. or so.

Wet Wednesday

A stalled front could lead to some periods of heavy rain late Tuesday night and Wednesday over parts of southern Minnesota. Some spots, including the Twin Cities, could see three inches of rain.

Here is a summary of the heavy rain potential from the Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service:
