A trough of low pressure will move through Minnesota today and tonight, igniting some showers and thunderstorms:
The last image on the loop shows the Thursday morning weather map. A cold front approaches on Thursday, igniting another batch of thunderstorms. The Thursday batch of thunderstorms could arrive in the Twin Cities sometime in the late afternoon.

Some of the thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening could be severe. The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service has a slight risk of severe weather today and tonight over much of southern Minnesota, including the southwestern part of the Twin Cities metro area:
The remainder of Minnesota and western Wisconsin are in the marginal risk area for severe weather.
The best chance of a strong to severe thunderstorm in the Twin Cities would tend to be from about mid afternoon into this evening.
Here are the risk categories that are used by the Storm Prediction Center:
Warmer and more humid
Dew points in sticky mid to upper 60s will be common over much of southern and central Minnesota this afternoon through Wednesday. Dew points in the "tropical" lower 70s are possible on Thursday.
High temperatures will be in the lower 80s over much of Minnesota this afternoon:
Upper 70s are expected over parts of northern Minnesota.
Wednesday highs will be slightly warmer:
Some upper 80s return on Thursday:
A few spots in southwestern Minnesota could touch 90 on Thursday. That will feel steamy, with dew points around 70 degrees!
High temps this coming weekend will be in the 70s.
