Searching for average in Minnesota weather can be a futile exercise. Temperature swings here often match the volatility of the Dow Jones Index. From a heat index of 115 degrees in the west metro Saturday, to 76 degrees Monday afternoon?
It's enough to give forecasters (more) gray hair, and to keep you fumbling for the AC on/off switch.
We enjoy more free AC across Minnesota today. Temperatures in the 70s and dew points near 50 degrees are nearly ideal for human comfort. With favorable weather conditions and long evening twilight these are the days to get that late tee time or enjoy a 9 p.m. sunset stroll around the lakes.
Our next shot at rainfall comes overnight Wednesday into Thursday. The Fourth of July holiday weekend is trending drier and sunnier for the metro.

Bubble high
A weak but effective bubble of high pressure drifts overhead today. Light winds, plenty of sun and a comfortable air mass hang around into tomorrow. The next weak Canadian cool front drifts southward tomorrow night into Thursday with spotty thundershower coverage. The next cool high pressure cell dives south from Canada Friday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's NAM 4 km model does a nice job of capturing the notion of spotty pop-up showers by tomorrow night, then the frontal band of scattered thundershowers pushes south across Minnesota Thursday.
Wednesday's severe risk zone centers on Nebraska, with a marginal, or low severe risk into Sioux Falls, S.D., and southwest Minnesota counties.
The risk for severe storms with Thursday's frontal passage in the Twin Cities appears to be quite low.
