Cold and breezy opener, frost possible Sunday morning
Saturday morning temps were in the upper 20s over much of northern Minnesota, with lower 30s over central and southern parts of our state.
It is also very breezy for the fishing opener this year, with morning wind chill temps in the teens over the north and 20s over southern Minnesota.
We can handle that, Minnesotans don't stow away their warm clothes until June!

Highs today will be 15 to 20 degrees below average:
High temps will be mostly in the 40s, with a few spots in southern Minnesota touching 50.
A high pressure pressure system moves closer to us tonight, so winds will be lighter late tonight and Sunday:
Scattered showers are possible over southwestern Minnesota later this afternoon and evening. Scattered showers are possible across Minnesota and Wisconsin on Monday.
Frost possible early Sunday
If you covered your plants or brought them indoors Friday night, you'll want to do it again tonight. Lows will be in the 20s Sunday morning over northern Minnesota with some 30s in the south:
With light winds Sunday morning, temperatures at ground level could be a few degrees colder than the official readings.
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for much of central and northern Minnesota and western Wisconsin for midnight to 8am Sunday:
There is a frost advisory from midnight to 8am Sunday for the Twin Cities metro area, and areas to our west and southeast. Patchy frost is possible in the Twin Cities, especially in low areas and the outer suburbs.
Afternoon update: The National Weather Service has expanded the frost advisory area to include much of southwestern Minnesota:
A bit warmer Sunday afternoon
Highs Sunday will be about 10 degrees warmer than our Saturday highs, but still below normal:
Northern Minnesota should see highs in the 50s, with lower 60s possible in the south.
Warmer temps in sight
The winds aloft are coming out of the northwest today:
By Friday, they will be coming out of the southwest:
That will bring us high temps in the 70s by Friday!
As we transition to the warmer pattern, we expect highs in the 60s Monday through Wednesday, and we could hit 70 on Thursday.
