Windy and cold Saturday, much nicer on Sunday

An Alberta clipper will sweep across Minnesota overnight, and the low will be sitting over central Wisconsin by about sunrise on Saturday. It will deliver accumulating snow to northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, where winter weather advisories are in effect.

Here is a summary graphic from the Duluth office of the National Weather Service:

Winter weather advisories extend from midnight to 6am Saturday over northeastern Minnesota, and from 2am to 10am Saturday over northwestern Wisconsin.

Winds will be very strong on Saturday over Minnesota, and wind advisories are in effect from 4am to 4pm for much of southwestern through southeastern Minnesota. Winds in the wind advisory area will be around 30 mph, with gusts to about 45 mph. Winds in the Twin Cities metro area should be around 25 to 30 mph, with some higher gusts. Here is a summary of our blustery Saturday from the Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service:

We could see some minor snow accumulations on grassy surfaces in the Twin Cities area very early on Saturday, but the higher snow amounts should stay well to our northeast and east.

Despite some sunshine, highs Saturday will be about 12 degrees below normal in the Twin Cities, topping out in the upper 30s:
