Rain chances improve

We had a wonderful weekend in the Twin Cities, with a high of 80 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday. There was plenty of sunshine and it was great weather for outdoor activities.

But we need some rain!

We've seen only .15 inch of precipitation at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport so far this month. That includes the water content of the light snow that fell on April 8. Our precipitation total through April 17 was 1.22 inches below normal. We have seen only about 11 percent of our normal precipitation total so far this month.

Rain is coming

The forecast maps show a low pressure system spinning rain up and over much of Minnesota today, tonight and Tuesday:

In the Twin Cities, we have a chance of scattered showers by late afternoon, with showers likely at times from tonight into Tuesday. An isolated thunderstorm is also possible later today and tonight over southern Minnesota.  A lingering chance of showers stays with us from Wednesday into early Thursday.

Warm southern Minnesota

A stationary front separates cool air over northern Minnesota from warm air over the south. Highs in southern Minnesota will be mostly in the 70s today, with a few spots touching 80:

Many spots in northern Minnesota will only reach the 40s and 50s this afternoon.

Cooler after today

Highs in the 60s will be common over southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities from Tuesday through Friday:

Highs in the 60s are still slightly above normal for this time of year.

I hope that you have a good week!
