Breezy and warm through Saturday, a bit cooler Sunday

We hit 76 degrees at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport yesterday. That is 19 degrees above normal, and today will be just as warm:

If you are going to be stuck in a weather pattern, this is the kind of pattern you might choose.

Warm southerly winds will continue through Saturday as a low pressure system moves slowly toward us:

Because we have strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures, there is an enhanced fire risk today. Any brush fire that develops will spread rapidly, so outdoor burning is not recommended.

The best shower chances today and Saturday will be over northwestern Minnesota. We might have to wait until Sunday night or early Monday for scattered showers in the Twin Cities.

Notice the low pressure system tracking through the southwest. Winter storm warnings are in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for 8-14 inches of snow in the Denver area!

Are we statistically overdue for a serious tornado event in the Twin Cities?

Tornado expert Kenny Blumenfeld and KARE 11’s Belinda Jensen discuss that possibility with MPR chief meteorologist Paul Huttner on Weather Lab today at 10 am. On Climate Cast at 10:30 a.m., Paul discusses why Minnesota companies are going green on climate.
