Warmer Sunday and Monday

A warmup is coming, but not until Sunday.

Clouds are expected to break up from west to east during our Saturday afternoon, so western Minnesota may see some lower 40s, with cooler highs elsewhere:

A low pressure system approaches on Sunday, giving us southerly winds and warmer temperatures. Southeastern Minnesota could see some late day showers:

Highs on Sunday will be warmer:

If we have enough afternoon sunshine, upper 50s are possible in the Twin Cities!  Our average high this time of year is 36 degrees.

First 60?

Looking ahead to the coming week, the European forecast model still shows Twin Cities highs in 60s on Monday and Tuesday:

I see a good chance of at least hitting 60 both days, but we also have a chance of occasional showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon into Tuesday.  Timing of any rain will affect our high temps Monday and Tuesday, and a cold front also approaches late Tuesday. It will be cooler on Wednesday, then temperatures rebound nicely.

Sign of Spring

This is the time of year that we start to think about thunderstorms in Minnesota.

The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service has the following severe weather outlook for Monday and Monday night:

rt37svout

It shows a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms over southwestern Minnesota on Monday and Monday night. That is one category below the slight risk area that extends from Nebraska southward.

Twins spring training, bare lawns, thunderstorms in the extended forecast .... it's starting to really feel like spring!
