Cool front today, but warm September overall?

We're off and running on a warm start to September in Minnesota.

The speed bump you feel today is a cold front pushing south. Get ready for about 48 hours of cool weather, before the next warm front slides north by Sunday. And so it goes, a roller coaster forecast in an overall warm September?

Cool front dives south today

Northerly wind flow increases today behind the front. We are reminded that Minnesota is a tall state from north to south. Temps are in the 30s up north, with 60s in the Twin Cities. When wind flow pushes a colder air mass in we call that cold air advection in weather. Plenty of that on that map today.

The longer range maps for next week suggest a strong warm up across the Upper Midwest, with increasing chances for rain and thunder Tuesday and Wednesday. Summer weather is not over just yet across Minnesota.

MPR Weather joins Freshwater Society Weatherguide calendar team

I am pleased to announce that MPR Weather is now part of the team that produces the popular Minnesota Weatherguide Calendar.

Weatherguide
Freshwater Society

I have had the pleasure of working with the Freshwater Society on the 2016 Weatherguide. KARE 11 meteorologists also contribute content to this beautiful and informative Minnesota weather resource. Look for more info during our fall membership drive at MPR in October.

You can order online from Freshwater, or pick up a calendar at your local bookstore. These calendars usually sell out every year, so grab one before they are gone. They make a great holiday gift for the weather geek in your life. And no, I don't get a cut for saying that.
