Temporary dew point relief then weekend heat

Good sleeping weather?

It's a concept Minnesotans of a certain age are familiar with. Back in the day many Minnesota homes did not have air conditioning. My parents and hundreds of other Minneapolitans actually slept outside near Minneapolis lakes during the raging heat waves of the 1930s.

The giant window fan at the Huttner Weather Lab of my youth roared away all summer long. The ongoing debate? Turn the fan blowing in or out? We kids slept on the floor by the fan window in the hallway. We vied for the best position. For us, blowing in was the right call as we felt what cooler air there was pumped over us as the inbound breeze stripped some body heat away from us.

For everyone else in the house, fan blowing out was the right call, as heat was sucked from the home and blasted outside, while cooler air was pulled in every other window. Dad was right. Fan blowing out was the best way to maximize cooling potential of any given air mass.

We enjoy a brief respite from humidity overnight and early Wednesday as a slight northeast breeze lowers dew points into the upper 50s from the metro north and east. Rain chances increase again Thursday morning. Heat returns just in time for the weekend.
