Sunday evening severe weather

Strong to severe thunderstorms erupted over parts of west-central and northwestern Minnesota Sunday afternoon, and the severe weather threat continues this Sunday evening.

The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch, valid until 1am Monday, for much of Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin. The tornado watch includes the Twin Cities metro area.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for northwestern and west-central Minnesota until 10 pm.

The tornado watch is outlined in red, the severe thunderstorm watch is in blue.

In addition to the possibility of a few tornadoes in the tornado watch area, widespread damaging thunderstorm winds and large hail are possible.

Stay alert to threatening weather this Sunday evening, and be prepared to move quickly to a safe location.

 

UPDATE TO THE TORNADO WATCH:

The Storm Prediction Center has cancelled the tornado watch as of 10 pm Sunday July 12, and replaced it with a severe thunderstorm watch that expires at 4am Monday July 13.
