Seasonal temperatures and bouts of showers this week

The weekend brought a mixed bag of weather to the state, with rather generous rainfall in parts of northwest and southwest Minnesota on Sunday and Sunday night.  In the Fargo-Moorhead region, more than three-fourths of an inch of rain was tallied on Sunday.

Nearly two-thirds of an inch of rain fell in Marshall Sunday night and into Monday morning.

Dry skies were the rule in Duluth, where precipitation totals for the year are running more than 3.5 inches below normal.

Rochester has received more than 15 inches of rain so far in 2015, which is more and two and half inches above normal.

Overcast skies in southeast Minnesota on Saturday where replaced by warm sunshine on Sunday with highs in the 80s.

Showers and thunderstorms in southwest Minnesota this morning will push into northern Iowa. Showers in northwest Wisconsin are expected to weaken.

Heavy rain is likely in a swath from  Kansas City, Mo., through St. Louis to near Chicago today. A flash flood watch has been posted by the National Weather Service  for northeast Illinois, including Chicago.

Timing on precipitation is a challenge this week as models differ on the track of rain-making systems, but Thursday is looking to be the nicest day.

Rainfall totals are expected to be excessive in southeast Texas as a tropical depression tries to form in the Gulf of Mexico before moving on shore.
