Spring takes hold: 60s return, favorable Twins opener

This could be the weekend that restores our faith in spring in Minnesota.

The jet stream lifts mercifully north into Canada over the next week. The recipe for spring in the next week? Increasingly sunny skies. Six consecutive days at or above 60 degrees. An occasional shower and thunderstorm chance.

'Tis the season for greening grass, daffodils and tulip in Minnesota. Get ready to enjoy spring in full bloom over the next week.

Even after a cool few days, April is still running warmer than average in most of Minnesota. Temperatures look to run a good 20 degrees warmer next week than last, with a string of highs above 60 for the Twin Cities metro area.

Sunny high pressure slides south over Minnesota for a classic spring Saturday. Sun gives way to some billowing clouds Sunday afternoon, and a chance for a few scattered showers and a thunderstorm late Sunday as a weak cool front drifts east.

Both the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Global Forecast System and European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts models favor a string of 60-degree-plus days in the next week.

The European model suggests we will touch 70 or better on the metro Sunday, and again by next Wednesday afternoon.

Mixed sun, temperatures in the low 60s and a slight breeze blowing out toward the outfield for outdoor baseball in April? We'll take it. Sitting in the outfield sun will feel nice. Bring a light coat if you're sitting on the first base side in the shade.
