Twin Cities: Riding the snowy edge
The metro rides the northern edge of our latest Alberta Clipper. The cutoff on the northern edge of this system is pretty sharp, so there will be a rapid drop-off in snowfall in as you move north and east through eastern the metro. This system is not particularly heavy, but the steadiest bands setting up just southwest of the metro will be persistent enough to produce a good swath of 1 inch to 2 inches, with some isolated 3-inch totals possible between the Minnesota River Valley and the Interstate 94 corridor.
Bottom line: Expect some slick roads overnight into Wednesday morning's commute.
Mild trend continues
What happens when wind blow for the west in Minnesota in winter? Milder pacific air massed sweep in fork Seattle and Portland. Watch as our Clipper exits, another Pacific warm front arrives by Friday.
This week still trends mild compared to January averages. The average high in the Twin Cities this week has budged slightly upward to 24 degrees. More days above 30 are in the forecast as milder pacific air hangs tough.
The next Clipper appears Saturday night into Sunday. This one looks stronger as it dives southeast from Alberta on the maps. A swath of a few inches possible by Sunday morning?
