November preview and Halloween chills this week

Welcome to another Monday. This last week in October is famous for extreme weather swings in Minnesota. The weather pendulum swings this week too, but nothing too scary lurks on the horizon.

At least not yet.

Our mostly gray Monday trends wet in western Minnesota, but favors milder than average weather in the metro and points southeast.

Minnesota lingers on the edge of late summer like warmth one more day, as highs in the 80s push into St. Louis, Missouri, with 70s as close as Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin. Isn't that only a five hour drive?

Our next weathermaker brings mostly light showers today. The best chance for light soaking runs from eastern South Dakota into west central Minnesota. here's the view from the Sioux Falls, South Dakota, National Weather Service.

The relatively mild air isn't long for the metro this week.

A fairly potent cold front will get your attention Tuesday, as gusty northwest winds pump in much cooler air and kick up a blizzard of leaves. The weather mellows by midweek as high pressure builds in.

Roses still bloom around parts of the metro this morning. Early morning freezes will be more common later this week.

Halloween chills

The polar fleece may be a good option under the costume Halloween night. Temps struggle to reach 45 Friday afternoon. By sunset, temps are headed toward 40 degrees, and  into the upper 30s after dark.
