Summer is like a daydream of denial for Minnesotans. We soak in long sunny warm days and almost suspend belief that wintry winds will ever blow again.
Almost.
Our October preview lasts the rest of the week, with increasingly sunny skies Thursday. The good news? The weekend is starting to look spectacular, if a little cooler than average for mid-September.

This might be a sleeper weekend to make an early trip up to the cabin or North Shore and take in the early color splashes against a backdrop of lingering greens with blue skies overhead.
Yes, a few splashes of color are already showing up up north. The chilly nights the next few days will no doubt speed up the color process across Minnesota.
The bottom of this early September cold snap comes Saturday morning. Lows in the 30s will be common everywhere across Minnesota except the inner metro core. I expect frost at many locations by Saturday morning, but most of the metro should escape frost this time.
Here's a look at average first 32 degree temps in fall. This cold shot is coming a little early this year for many locations.
The forecast improves considerably as we approach the weekend and early next week.
