Flood warnings metro wide

The weather insanity continues this morning around Minnesota. Multiple flash flood warnings are in effect.

  • New daily rainfall record today with 3.77 inches so far at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport

  • Previous record was 2.44 inches in 1954

  •  Rain eases through midday, more storms possible ate today and tonight

This time the Twin Cities metro gets in on the action, as 2 to 4 inches of rain has already fallen in parts of the metro.

Flooding impacting Minneapolis parkways

Significant flooding is currently impacting parkways across Minneapolis. As of 10 a.m., the highest impacted areas include:

Cedar Ave at Minnehaha Parkway is flooded and closed. Barricades will be up shortly

Minnehaha Parkway from Longfellow Ave to Bloomington Ave is flooded for vehicles. Barricades will be up shortly.

Minnehaha Parkway is impassable from Pleasant Ave S to Nicollet Ave S. Barricades will be up shortly.

Minnehaha Parkway from Bloomington Ave to 22nd Ave. The bike and walking paths are flooded.

Dean Parkway at West Lake Street is flooded. Barricades will be up shortly.

Please avoid these areas and use alternate routes. Additionally, walking and bike paths near these areas and around water bodies such as lakes, creeks and rivers may also be impacted by heavy rains. Please use caution.

The early morning deluge has pushed Lake Minnetonka to yet another all time record high water level today.

Doppler radar storm total rainfall shows a swath of 2 to 4 inches near the metro, with heavier rainfall totals as much as 3 to 6 inches-plus in southwest Minnesota near Fairfax, Winthrop, Gaylord, Olivia, and Cottonwood.
