Easing into summer, drier forecast this week?

Tuesday's weather reminds me of that Old Milwaukee beer slogan of yesteryear.

"It doesn't get any better than this."

Our picture perfect air mass lingers into early Wednesday, with a little added heat. Temperatures crack 80 degrees in the Twin Cities metro area for just the 10th time this year Wednesday afternoon.

Wednesday's incoming front takes primary aim at northern Minnesota. Look for an increase in showers and thunderstorms as we head through the day in the Northland.

Our incoming low is taking a more northerly track.

The northerly track trend likely means just a passing shot of showers or a thunderstorm and lighter rainfall totals for the metro overnight Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with more soaking rains of 1 to 2 inches possible up north.

A quicker system also means Thursday is looking sunnier in southern Minnesota. A stiff northwest breeze behind the low will whip up some significant  waves of 1 to 3 feet on overflowing lakes. Hope those low riding dock sections are secure!

Trending drier?

Don't look now, but we may be stringing together a mostly dry week for the metro. No need to roll out the kayak for metro commutes this week just yet.

Here's a look at the latest rainfall output for the metro. The North American Mesocsale Forecast System sputters out a mere .13 inch for rain Wednesday night. The Global Forecast System now suggests less than half an inch this weekend. We'll see if the drier trend holds. We could use a break on rainfall.

Easing into summer?

Overall long term trends suggest a slow (and pleasant?) gradual ease into more summer like weather.

Here's a look at the GFS long range trends on temperature anomaly next week, which suggest  some slightly warmer than average weather nudging the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest by next Tuesday.

I don't know about you, but I could live with a solid month of high in the upper 70s and lows in the 50s and low humidity.

Good sleeping weather, low dew points, comfy air masses and no heat or AC?
