Slow Motion Spring: Maytober air mass triggers frost

Our sloooow motion spring continues.

The land is turning high energy springtime green. The sky still says October.

Clearing skies this week and a chilly Canadian air mass have set the stage for mid-May frost in Minnesota. Frost advisories have been posted for much of western and central Minnesota.

Frosty metro suburbs?

The inner core of the Twin Cities metro area may escape frost this week. But many metro suburbs may get nipped. The coldest metro temperature likely arrive Thursday and Friday morning at this point. Time for those eager beaver gardeners to cover the Supertunias?

Frost is now uncommon in Minnesota in mid-May.

The latest 32 degree temperature record at Minneapolis-St.Paul International Airport was on May 24, 1925. Mercifully I don't think well match that level of cold looking at the maps the next two weeks.

Nice weekend ahead?

We may get rewarded for paying some chilly weather dues this week. The weather stars appear to be aligning for a dry, mostly sunny and milder weekend.

Looking way ahead, the early look at the Memorial Day Weekend appears to favor more consistent temps in the 70s, and chances for some occasional rain and thunder. In other words, pretty typical weather for late May.
