PM rush snow burst means slick roads, Winter Storm Watch starts Tuesday evening

A quick update as weather conditions are changing rapidly in the Twin Cities metro area today -- and this week.

First, our quick late afternoon snow burst during rush hour is bad timing for metro commuters. It's a narrow band of snow, but it's coming down with big flakes and putting down a quick coating to an inch across the region. Roads are very slick in places. Expect to double your commute time this afternoon and early evening.

Twin Cities includes in winter storm watch starting Tuesday night

The major winter storm we've been talking about for northern and central Minnesota shows signs of tracking further south. The Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service has now included the metro in the winter storm watch.

I still think the heaviest bands will fall north of the metro area, but we may be upping snowfall totals for the Twin Cities depending on model trends later tonight. The bulk of the snow will fall Tuesday night through Wednesday.

Stay tuned!
