"Fresh front" blows in Friday and this weekend

Isaac fades to a tropical depression - still dumping heavy rains

"Hottest" in 24 years in the metro this summer:

Hot enough for ya?

The Twin Cities sweated through 90 degree heat for the 28th time this year Thursday.

By that measure, this has been the "hottest" summer in the Metro (and most of Minnesota) in 24 years since the sizzling summer of 1988 when we endured/survived a record 44 days of 90+ degree heat...and 4 days above 100!

2007 was the last year that was close to this "hot" with 27 days of 90 degree heat.

I don't know about you...but temps in the 80s are looking pretty good to me for Labor Day Weekend!

Fresher Front Ahead!

A (welcome) cooler front is delivers a puff of cooler, more comfortable Canadian air to Minnesota Friday.

Dew points in this fresh air mass are in the 50s...and even 40s behind the front. It's going to feel much more comfortable as we launch into the 3rd big "holiday weekend"...and the unofficial end of summer.

Isaac fades, but still soaks:

Once Hurricane Isaac has faded to tropical depression strength, but he's still dumping some heavy and much needed rain.

Takke a look at the QPF for Isaac:

Now compare to Thursday's U.S. Drought Monitor:

You can see how multi inch rainfall totals from Isaac may actually help ease drought in a big chunk of Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.

Carver County tornado confirmed:

Mark Seeley reports there was a confirmed tornado in Carver County in the week's Weather Talk.

Topic: August 23 tornado in Carver County confirmed

Todd Krause of the National Weather Service in Chanhassen confirmed this week that an EF-0 (winds 65-85 mph) tornado northeast of Plato in Carver County on August 23rd, damaging corn fields and trees, and destroying a barn. It was on the ground for 3.2 miles.
