Strong thunderstorms possible across the state

From meteorologist Bill Endersen:

The stage continues to be set for strong thunderstorms to develop across Minnesota this afternoon, beginning in the west. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk area for severe weather for most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Storms should intensify as they spread into eastern Minnesota by late afternoon or very early evening. Some thunderstorms are likely to become severe. The biggest risk will be of damaging hail. Tornadoes are possible mainly early in the event before a more linear storm structure develops.

The metro area is likely to have strong/severe storms most likely during the 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. time frame.

Ahead of the storms, the afternoon will be hot and more humid with a strong south wind.

The cold front contributing to this active weather will push into Wisconsin this evening and shut the door on the strong storms. Monday will be a much cooler, pleasant day.
