November: Reality check tomorrow

9 front.png

Look for cloudy skies and a few stray rain showers as we open November today.

November begins on a mild note, temps will push into the upper 50s today with a shot at 60 in southeast Minnesota and maybe close to the metro.

A colder front will bring us back to reality by tomorrow.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the “once in a lifetime” thing every time we set a new weather record. What really makes you think these events won’t keep happening? It seems like all we do is break records.

Our overnight low (last night) was about 45. Normal is 32. Today’s high is forecast to be 55-60. That would be 6-11 above average for the daily maximum. So today is set to be WAY above average.

So these things aren’t really once in a lifetime.

As a nine-year old in 1958, I had to write a poem as a school assignment about one of the months of the year. The best months were taken by classmates not as prone to procrastination as I, and I was forced to take October and ponder its better qualities. It remains my best work:

    OCTOBER

    October, gee, you’re nice.

You’re away from the snow and ice.

Yet you’re away from the summer heat–

    October, gee, you’re neat!
