Conditions to worsen rapidly

Heavy snow with thunder was reported in southwest Minnesota at 7AM. This indicates snow will accumulate at the rate of more than an inch per hour. Be prepared for travel conditions to deteriorate rapidly this morning in southern Minnesota.

The center of the lowest pressure is still way off in northern Kansas. It will track through Iowa this evening. This an ideal path for a prolong period of heavy snow in central Minnesota. Heavy snow accumulations with blowing and drifting will make for very difficult travel as we head through the day.

Temperatures in the twenties should remain nearly steady. Sleet will mix with the snow in far southern Minnesota this morning.

Snow begins in the Twin Cities between 9AM and 10AM. Heavy snow to develop quickly.
