Dodging the first jab
A surge of milder air pushed temperatures well into the thirties as far north as Duluth overnight. There were pockets of dense fog, but for the most part travel isn't extremely difficult this morning.
We will not be staggered by this first blow from Mother Nature.
Radar is displaying a weak smear of snow in northwest Minnesota. The region from Fargo to about Baudette still has the chance to pick up three to five inches of snow today. Meanwhile a chilly rain is likely in southern and central Minnesota. Some of the rain could mix in with sleet from Little Falls to Aitkin and then change to all snow later today.
Colder air is sliding southeast and will set the stage for a rather complicated weather system on Friday. Currently the trend is for milder air to dominate in far eastern Minnesota. The track of the second low over the Twin Cities on New Year's Eve places the heaviest snow into west central Minnesota.
