Ice storm grips Iowa

Ice hangs from street signs, and everything else in Des Moines today.

A major ice storm is gripping the state of Iowa today. Up to an inch of ice is snapping tree limbs and downing power lines in the Hawkeye State. Widespread power outages are reported throughout the state. The hardest hit areas are in the western half of Iowa, where half an inch to 1 inch freezing rain reports are common.

Up to an inch of ice covers parts of western Iowa today.
