Twin Cities NWS weather story highlights snow area Sunday.

It looks like another classic winter weekend in Minnesota.

Saturday should be the better day to last minute holiday run errands. Sunday looks like the day to get out and play in the falling snow.

An Alberta Clipper will glide through Minnesota Sunday. Snow could begin late Saturday night in western Minnesota, and spread into the metro by early Sunday morning. It appears this will be a pretty quick hitting snow, and most of the snow should end in the metro by around noon Sunday.

Right now it appears most areas will see between 1" and 2" of new accumulation with the system Sunday. The best bet for the metro is about an inch.

East Coast: Major winter storm.

We're getting off lucky this weekend compared to cities along the east coast. As of 5pm Friday evening 8" of snow has already fallen in Asheville, North Carolina. The major storm will likely dump as much as 10" in New York, a foot in Philly and as much as 15" to 25" of heavy wet snow in Washington, D.C.

The forecast models are still hinting at the possibility of snow for our region on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Right now the latest runs take the snow south. That could change. Stay tuned early next week to see what may develop.
