Fishing opener weather

Fair weather cumulus glide over the Weather Lab today.

It's about what you'd expect for a Minnesota fishing opener weekend. Add one part rain, one part cool and throw in some sun and a nice day on Sunday and you've got the right recipe.

As anglers get ready to wet a line for the first time this year today's weather is about as good as it gets for May in Minnesota. A weather system moving in on Friday will bring rain to much on Minnesota after lunchtime. It may even be cold enough for a few wet snowflakes in central Minnesota on the back side of the system as colder air pushes in lat Friday night.

Saturday will dawn chilly and wet with a blustery northwest wind. The day will improve in the afternoon as the weather system pulls away into Wisconsin. Look for highs in the 50's south and even a few 40's north.

Sunday looks like the better day of the weekend for Mother's Day. High pressure will bring plenty of sun and lighter winds. We should manage to warm to near 60 in the south, with 50's up north.
