A little frosty

The weather map today looks more like April.

You can feel the chilly breeze today as temperatures struggle to climb out of the 30's in northern Minnesota. With clear skies and lighter winds, temperatures will drop to freezing tonight across much of the northern half of the state. Even those newly planted tender veggies in gardens in the outer metro suburbs may get nipped tonight.

You might think frost would be unusual this late in May. It's not. Frost has occurred as late as May 24th in the metro. The average frost free (safe) dates in the Brainerd area are between May 29th and June 4th. Around Tower and Embarrass it may still get frosty as late as June 25th.

The cool weather pattern will bring a shot of frost to areas north of the metro tonight. Another shot will come Saturday and Sunday morning. Then the warm up begins!
