Red River Flooding

Some of the snow has melted into the tributaries and is flowing into the Red River of the North. Yesterday afternoon the Red River in Wahpeton reached flood stage and continues to rise steadily.

The cooler air in place during the next 36 hours will slow the thaw, But milder temperatures on the weekend will accelerate the melt and the thaw along the Red River Valley.

Forecasters are watching the potential for a major precipitation event developing late in the weekend and into early next week. River stage forecasts are taking into account this additional moisture.
