Normal is rare

After the first thirteen days of March we were running about five to seven degrees below normal in Minnesota. Take into account the warmth of the last three days and we have cut that cold departure in half.

Normal is a collection of the extremes over time. International Falls is a great example this transition month of March. So far, in the first sixteen days, the Falls has had eight days averaging below the thirty year normal and eight days above the thirty year normal. They are still about two degrees colder than normal for the month, since three days were greater than 20 degrees below normal.

Temperatures drop back closer to normal Thursday before another surge of mild air arrives for Saturday and Sunday. Something might be brewing for Sunday and Monday, particularly for the Red River Valley. We are on the look out for unwelcomed moisture in northwest Minnesota.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, my lawn actually greened up a little on Monday. A wee bit of a breeze again this afternoon.
